Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Be sure to listen to the noise with a two ear stethoscope. It is really hard to tell the difference in lifters and piston slap that occurs at bottom of stroke. Just a couple thousands over can be heard in these air cooled motors.
If pistons/cylinders are original, a 2003 with that many miles if it has see the rev limiter a lot just could have a little cylinder/skirt wear.
If it runs OK, ignore it, especially if dimensions were checked when engine was gone thru if it was. Not like it's going to hurt anything.

Go to the Rockout website and look at the "witness" marks on the rocker shaft that are the source of the noise. Look for those witness marks when you install the Rockouts. If there are witness marks, you can expect an improvement with the Rockouts but if no witness marks and pushrods are adjusted properly and noise persists, lifters might have to be replaced.
I have seen pics with those makes, but I haven´t given it that thought - thanks ;-)
I received your order, it's packed up & will ship today. Ebay will be sending you tracking info.
Thanks and please let me know if I can answer any questions or help in any way.

Thanks John - I am sure I can get it " to quiert down" ;-)
My bolts didnt have any marks, but installed the rockouts anyway - and took the bike for a 30-35 miles spin today.
Dame that made a huge difference 😎😎 I think the tapping noice is 75% gone/lowered when idling hot - but I still have a little bit in the 2000-2500 range...
the question is - is it even possible to get totally rid of it ?
heard something about exhaust-noice?? But didnt get why and where ?!?
