Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Hi all I have 09 heritage Softail. Had 13k mi never any problems, but few days ago was on a group ride an notice on de acceleration was popping very bad an lound, even doin like 20 mph. before would only do this very slightly if I'd smash on it n let off. So decided to cut trip short, an on way home at every stop sign it was cutting out like wants to die but it never did but only sputters in first gear or if I'm in neutral an give it a good rev. I've checked plugs, wires. Always only used premium fuel. Any advice is appreciated.sorry for long story
Could be a leak at the muffler. Also just because the bolts are "tight" doesn't mean it not leaking at the flanges. Either way doubt a leak would effect the performance the way you describe.
I had a similar thing and a guy here on the forum nailed it with a leaking fuel line in my fuel tank. I had decel pop and would cough into the intake. I thought it was a sensor issue. Here is a video on it.
This maybe your issue or it may not, but worth a look. Prior to my fuel line leak issue I had replaced the Fuel Pressure regulator about a year before. The bike would shut down at lights and would pop badly when ridding and slowing down was bad.
My filter is new also changed plugs an plug wires. I also thought maybe fuel pressure regulator but when I cycyle the fuel pump with fuel cap off it says u would be able to see the fuel squirting around if it was bad..
