So I purchased my 2002 RK a few years ago it had 16k on her. She now has 36k.
So right after I purchased the bike, I removed the cam cover to check my tensioners and to my surprise was a gear drive.
I then connected my laptop to the pc3 and it listed Andrews 37G cams.
So my question is what is the life span of a gear drive setup?
And the lifters?
I am also assuming the inner cam bearings were replaced. All I know about the bike is it cam from Sandy's HD in Michigan.
IMO
The gear drive will run as long as your engine. ( this assumes the crank remains true, chances are good on an `02)
Lifters = 50K miles
Don`t worry, ride it.
The T/C lifter(roller) isn't as prone to premature failures like their Evo c/parts that would fail, unless subjected to over-the-top valve spring pressures.
If the hydraulic unit begins to fail, you'll hear monentary valvetrain noise upon start-up, and usually then, from the f/exhaust.
Scott
gear drives will more or less never need replacing (like said earlier,as long as run out dosnt move over spec),i would replace lifters with some good aftermarket units
