This circlip is driving me nuts. It fought me every inch of the way. Now its in but doesnt look exactly like the others. The gap between the ends is a closer than the others.
Better safe than sorry
Take it out, throw it across the yard
measure the pin to make sure it is
not too long and use a new clip.
On early twin cams I used a copper
1/2" coupler that was ground down
to a sharp edge, to fit inside piston.
Well oiled and the clip installed inside at an angle
then pushed in with a socket
Thanks for the replies. I just looked and felt wrong. I did use the copper coupler method and 3 of the 4 went easy. I will definitely replace the circlip, its not worth the risk reusing this mean SOB.
The pistons are CP Carillo, do I need to order them specifically or will new HD circlip's suffice? I will call Fuel Moto in the morning and share what I learn.
The wisdom, support and knowledge here at HDForum's is second to none!
the one side isnt in all the way, push the w pin all the way against the other clip & just push the clip in the groove with a small pocket screw driver.
It looks like the circlip is bent/sprung I would get a new one. It's a bit tough on the fingers but I just get them started with my fingers then use a small screwdriver to push them in. Just don't pry on them because you will bend them.
yep, its buggered and after this photo headed to the bin. The good folks at Fuel Moto are graciously sending me 2 for the low low price of free dollars.
I offered several times to pay and Jim refused to take my money. I know they are cheap, but its not their fault. That lies squarely with me. I ham fisted it.
I was waiting to do my suspension upgrades until the drivetrain was complete, but Im on holiday, its snowing its **** off and I need something to do.
Circlip on left is CP Carillo and right is factory HD. There is a slight difference in gauge.
