Will you have enough thread on the bolt if you shorten it the amount you need?
Yes. 1/2" of threads. 10 threads at least by my count. Maybe 11. I used 2 washers and it's fine too. I'm just **** and would like it threaded tight without cutting it or using washers tho.

So I stopped down to Dubuque Hose & Hydraulic and we verified the size, picked up a 6mm tap, ran it in and all is well. Plenty deep just wasn't tapped deep enough. Dave's method would probably work but I was afraid it would either break or pull the threads out if it was bottomed out. Didn't take much at all.
