Well, maybe you got a bad lifter?

Are you sure the cam timing is right?

I’ll start from the beginning early summer I replaced everything in the cam chest with all screaming eagle parts 203 cams rode all summer no issues this winter I did the 95 inch jugs and pistons that’s when the noise started ! I replaced the lifters before the tear down once motor got hot noise came back now I’m back to square one cam chest out bike completely tore down! I see no damage anywhere except the scoring in cylinders and ring gaps lining up not sure where to go from here

At this point with the motor totally torn down take your cylinders and pistons to a local Indy machine shop and have them measure up the Pistons and cylinders to make sure the Pistons have the proper fit.. As I stated before you need torque plates to properly check the cylinders.. At the least you will eliminate this part out of the equation...

Like Max said in post #4 then later in the thread, are you sure you had the pistons in correctly, meaning the arrows point to the intake side. If thats the case then the arrows should be pointing to the center of the engine/intake manifold. I would guess because the intake valve is of larger diameter than exhaust, that intake valve would then be hitting the outside edge of the exhaust valve relief if the piston was installed backwards. Not to be a jerk but did you really check them?

Ride safe!

Ok so measure those valve reliefs and the larger one goes toward the center, small to outside. If I'm correct, that front piston is installed backward. LMK

Ride safe!

It's not.. They both need to point forward as the reason for the arrow is to ensure piston offset not valve relief.

From a 2001 SM.

4. See Figure 3-29. Place piston over rod end so that the
arrow stamped at the top of the piston points toward the
front of the engine.

I stand corrected, thank you Max.
