Default 96 to 103

Good morning, I have a 2009 FLHTC 96 ci with just over 40k, and I've been giving a lot of thought about doing the conversion to a 103, I bought it for the color scheme it has, blue and silver and for the most part, it's in really good shape for the year. This is my first touring bike, but my third Harley, but like I said, I've giving the idea a lot of thought lately, and I am really considering just pulling the trigger on this and doing it. Has anyone else done, and if so, was it worth it, I think that's the real question that I want answered.

I believe you’re going to find out that it’s probably a better bang for your buck just to go with one of the 107 kits instead…..

What are you trying to accomplish? I have a 2011 RK with a 96'' that has taken me from here in boring , flat Florida to all over the Smokies, the mountains of Wyoming, Montana and the west with no problems, two up. Maybe just a cam upgrade will get your blood flowing....FYI, I just did cams on mine while I had everything apart while replacing tensioners (56k miles). And there is definitely a difference....

Another vote for the 107". Same amount of work, very close to same cost, and power increase you can actually feel.

If you go to 103ci, do you research and find the right combination for your dresser in the way you ride, with a little bit of head work, The 103 will net you numbers somewhere around 110hp110tq or 110hp to 115 torque. The motor won’t put out as much heat, and when you get to your next 50,000, you can bore to a107. Just my thoughts. I went to the one 103 on my full dresser from a 96, and the final Dino curve was 104 hp and 119 pf of torque I do run an oil cooler, two up I can certainly get 38 to 40 miles a gallon, and with the camshaft I’ve got in there, I can drop a gear and get from 75 to 100 as fast as most anybody, only I am usually loaded two up. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of guys like the 107, however, when I wear out my 103 cylinders, I can rebuild the top end one more time with jugs and pistons only. If you go with the 103 with a good set of cams for your riding style, all you will need is pistons, upper gasket set, and a re-tune, saving you lots of money on Your next 107 rebuild. have a nice day. That’s just my two cents worth! Or, put in a set of Andrew‘s 48 cams with a good tune, and that’ll net you close to 100 100 with only a cam swap in a tune. That’s another thing to think about.

I went from 96 to 107, never considered a 103.
I shipped my bike to Fuel Moto in 2020....zero regrets, it's a lot of fun!

As cheap as everything is I would just go to 107 why waste your time on anything else... For prices the same, apples to apples, for performance it's apples to oranges. No brainer...
