Hello,
I wonder if someone here can advice me about a tool to install the wrist pin circlip on my JE-Pistons. I can easily install the Harley clip with a screw driver, as it is thinner, but the JE-clips are pretty much thicker and I must have a tool. The thickness of the JE-clips are 0.073", whereas the Harley clips are thinner. See pic below: JE site says not to use a scew driver, but does not mention any tool.
I have a Dyna 2006 and the wrist pin is 0.927"
Best regards

Here’s what I’ve done to manage those aftermarket clips. 3/4 brass coupling from hardware store and a 5/8 long socket to drive it home. Works every time. I squeeze the clip w pliers and lube the brass first w some light spray lube. Position the gap to outside like pic and aim the gap to desired spot at the pin

Umm, Errr, Dave?.. I think that's a copper 3/4" sweat coupling...Not that i'm a plumber or anything... LOL...
I have made a tool out of the copper pipe dimensions available in my country and I have practised on the old stock pistons. However it did not work, as the tool deformed the clip. The OD of the copper pipe I used is 22 mm and the ID is 20 mm. That is too small.
The wrist pin hole in the piston is 23,55 mm (0.927").
I realise, by watching the video in the realated thread below, that the tool I made is too small in its inner diameter and that I need a pipe with a 24 mm OD and a 22 mm ID and then I would have to grind that end of the pipe which is going into the piston.
As I do not know if this will succed I simultaneously looking for other solutions.
Has anyone here tried this tool with the thicker JE and CP clips (0,073")?
I installed some JE pistons more than a few years ago. Part of an Axtell kit. I used a slightly modified awl and a bunch of cuss words to install circlips. Orientation of the clip opening was very important to get them in
