Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Im in the process of putting my 99 evo engine back together so I thought it would be a good idea to replace the motor case hardware with something more shiny.
I bought a set of Colony motor case hardware to use.
when I tried to put the alignment studs/bolts in, they wouldnt go through the case on one side. I understand they have be a snug fit but this is ridiculous. Theres a shoulder on the shaft that prevents it from sliding through the other side.
I suppose I could just go and get another set of the OEM ones.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water; pretty sure there is an explanation. Why not call Colony and ask "WTF?
Originally the Evo cases used 3 thru studs that are listed as 5/16" but were actually 11/32" with reduced, 5/16 threads and positioned at 12, 8, and 4 o'clock, for case alignment. In 1996 HD stopped using that style stud and all the case bolts were simply 5/16 with (maybe) the exception of the 12 o'clock hole. Anyway, part # 3506 is the shouldered stud and obsolete from HD.
I've bought several set of Colony kits years ago and had to reuse the factory original studs in those positions because they were all straight 5/16 in the kit. Looks like they finally got it right and started supplying the correct studs for the early cases. ?
I've got a box full of the straight 5/16 ones that I couldn't use if you need any or be glad to swap with you.
