I pulled over when I heard a screeching sound. it sounds to me like I’m not getting oil somewhere. I just did an oil change but that was uneventful, no leaks fresh filter.
Sounds like top end but im not any kind of expert with these, I work on vintage Hondas.
I have a video of anyone is willing to listen https://youtube.com/shorts/7YUQcqr1hIU?feature=share
any ideas? It’s going to sit at the bar I rolled into down the street from where I stopped until I figure it out
Hi there, i have a CVO softail deluxe with 54k miles on the clock, just had some investigation work done primary side and cam side also top end. In the process they changed the Clutch bearing then test rode after all that and still had a slight knock now and again.
But now it sound like i have a bird inside chirping as i see you mention this have you had any replies as to what it is?

One guy says valve train, and to get a stethoscope and see where it’s coming from. He’s an experienced mechanic and race bike guy.
two guys say cam shaft bearing, both experienced mechanics, one primarily vintage, one a Harley tech.
all this is just them guessing from the video I posted. I have an enduro coming up next week that I’m prepping for so I’ll post the results when I know what I’m looking at once I’m back

I would guess either a stuck cam roller or a blown head gasket. The two experts may be right. The problem with the stethoscope is that cam problems show up as the valves dropping on the seats pretty hard. It's the cam causing the valve noise in the head.
BTW, I own a 78 CB750K8.. Currently just finished lacing an 18 in excel rim to the rear and resealing the tank. I've got one bud that probably owns 20 pre-1980 Hondas. Another with a GL1000, CB750 K8, Wife has a 77 cb550k, and a 75? CB350F. Good bikes. I was a Honda MC mech back in the 70s.
Hi Guys my chirping sound, well i decided to strip down the engine to see what is going on for myself. i found 1 of the 4 lifters the bearing was bad moved all over the place. when i got the cam plate out one of the cams had pitting in it. The chain tensioners were still ok but need replacing as have worn.
While its in bits Im going to replace the oil pump as well and check the engine run out. This is the second engine with 39k miles the first only got to 15k miles. So based on its longevity be in the same position again may be in 30-40k miles.
