Yea there might be a "smaller hole" in some generic sbc lifter, not specifically the Comp 850 that they sell for the chevy and vthunder line. How much clearance is around that rocker shaft up top??? Much less oil makes it around that shaft and the pushrod tips than a .070" hole with hot oil flows... S&S video is pretty biased I can tell you that.

But wait! Cyclerama has a new lifter coming out I'm sure they'll be even better!

I'm sorry but I find this whole discussion really funny.

Everybody keep dropping names of various brands either claiming or hoping they will be great.

And no one seem to even know how they work or what separates a good lifter from a bad one.

For all we know all lifters could be made by the same manufacturer and just sold under different brands.

It's the same with the whole set your push rods deeper to get rid of ticking noise. No one can provide a reasonable technical explanation to why that would work.

It's just voodoo

I’m gonna go with the smart Sumbitch.
Yep, I thought about it a little more. Smart Sumbitch it is.

You're correct. Tolerances and material are the main differences in each lifter. Comp does have a newer lifter design with a different style piston, I have no experience with it.

I set my 24tpi pushrods at 1.5 turns, sounds fine. As long as there's enough preload to overcome the thermal growth of the engine it'll be fine. I'm right there with you

Some lifters can struggle to keep prime and might function better w more preload, works for many. Set a typical SE 24 TPI at .100 and it could be loud and at .130/40 it quiets. That’s good evidence, many out here can testify

I'm just really curious why they function better with more preload.

There must be a technical explanation for this.
