Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Certainly adding an oil cooler would be step one, and fan assisted even better.
Check out DK Customs for more "cooling" mods if you need them after the oil cooler. Something like the Jim's force cool fan, would be my second step if additional cooling is needed.

Ive used a fan with GREAT success.......BUT, it's an older model no longer made by a guy that used to be around these parts.
Seen temps up to 330* in stop and go on my PV, which is cylinder head temp. Fan brings it down to 240*, much more comfy.
I won't leave home without it.
There are companies that make them.
Nobody gets away with lane splitting here. Illegal as hell.
An oil cooler should help some. Shutting it off for little cool downs help, too. But sometimes you gotta choose to either park it and wait or be a little bit outlaw. If you have to break the law, do it gently.
Yes, I run at 13 AFR at idle and a bit up, just for this reason. Also the EITMS starts adding fuel at 262 F, which is really good. However, I feel it is not enough after installing the big bore and I am thinking about a fan assisted oil cooler or just a fan.
Fans on the heads and a 10 row Jagg will cool thins off. If you can find a set or Wards fans, IMHO, the best value.

Those were the ones I was speaking of......have had them now for about 9-10 years, only replaced one fan, removed the snap switch and connected it to the accessory switch.
STILL works great to this day~!
Where I live (CA), splitting lanes can be normal. I also have cylinder head fans. On a hot day in traffic, I run them. Too bad about Wards. I had to use the copy. They do work tho. Especially at that 5 minute red light on a 100deg+ day
Stuck in traffic probably screwed. But I have wondered about newer EPA restrictions choking engine down and driving up temps. Tune, porting, and cams are the difference between these and some bikes. Plus more engine, more heat.

I don't completely understand the drama between the Love Jugs guys and Jason but knowing Jason and always rooting for the underdog, I come down on Jason's side and will never buy the Love Jugs product. Seems to me that the market for cooling fans for Harleys is big enough for both; let the buyer decide which product he/she wants. I do run an HD oil cooler that mounts between the down tubes and, so far it has been enough. If I ever need fan asssist, I will probably try the LaNale product.
