Default Keeping Engine Temperature down

So what is the best way to maintain normal engine temperature in a hot summer traffic jam? Often I end up with the highest curve and see ET close to 300° F.

Best Regards

Oak Mountain Rider

I made some grafic to illustrate the problem.

Unfortunately if your in stop and go under 20 mph nothing is really going to help.. even with my Evo's and Shovels, oil would get so thin from 320° cylinder temps and oil temps of 240° .. With today's EITMS it does help some And an after market runner to increase fuel would help as well..
They are air cooled motors..

1. If you are in a traffic jam and not moving, shut off your engine.
2. What engine Temp are you talking about? Oil Temp? Engine Head Temp? Cylinder Temp?
3. Where are the temp readings from?

1/ Yes, used do that during break in; over 250-60 ET I stopped and turned it off. But it was a difficult ride. Here I was looking for another advice like mounting an oil cooler or fan.

2/ ET, as that is what the ECM reads.

3/ The readings are based on ET supervision I have made with the PV last year. Now and then hitting 290-300 F in slow traffic hot days.

Yes, I run at 13 AFR at idle and a bit up, just for this reason. Also the EITMS starts adding fuel at 262 F, which is really good. However, I feel it is not enough after installing the big bore and I am thinking about a fan assisted oil cooler or just a fan.

I was stuck in traffic on I-70 because of an accident and the cops were investigating forever. I'd shut the engine off and duck walk it, then finally got tired of that, started it up and idled along the apron as far from the cars as I could get. A cop saw me, I looked at him to see if there was a problem and he went about his business. He must have known the bike would melt down idling too long. There is no good answer for air cooled bikes in a back up. I just do what I have to do.

I see what you mean. I live in an urban area and it’s traffic jam and traffic lights all the time so you have to split lanes frequently. So far no police has stopped me. A reason why I’m thinking about an oil cooler with fan or a fan is that I am getting older and in the future I will not ride so aggressively.

Nobody gets away with lane splitting here. Illegal as hell.
An oil cooler should help some. Shutting it off for little cool downs help, too. But sometimes you gotta choose to either park it and wait or be a little bit outlaw. If you have to break the law, do it gently.
