Just the opinion of a guy who worked on Jet Engines for 45 years...

Braided hose is nasty ****, it will damage anything it rubs against.

It will fray and when you find the fray it will be like a needle into your finger, and you will curse the day you installed it.

Oil hoses (and control cables) are ugly, why make them shiny and call attention to them?

Again, just my opinion.

not just my opinion, but if you route braided hose properly, they should never touch anything, EVER. so they wont damage anything because they never touch anything. sometimes the use of clamps of different sorts is required for this. also, the use of insulating materials is sometimes needed.

if it is quality hose and installed correctly, it will not fray, and wont ***** your finger.

my opinion says its hard to beat a nicely done set of braided hoses, (or cables, or especially wiring) on any application, nothing ugly about them at all.

there is a time and a place for everything, and sometimes braided hoses are not the correct way to go.

thats just an opinion.

Have you ever installed a set??
Well let me tell you.. Eventually they do go south, they do Fray and they will ***** your fingers.... And when they do fray they'll also poke tiny little holes in your oil line causing leaks.. this is not just my opinion these are facts......... I know that for a fact cuz it happened to my old EVO Fatboy..

Obviously, you are an expert with braided hose, sorry, your question made me think you had never used the stuff before.

I changed my mind, I think you should definitely use braided hoses, because oil lines look cool, and remember to buy a lot of rubber lined clamps and #10-32 nuts and screws (and spacers), so you can properly route the hose and keep it from touching anything.

Never mind, you already knew that...

Unfortunately legit AN ( Army/ Navy ) fluid line like @Dan89FLSTC used in Aviation is actually very rare in a stock motorcycle application, it’s almost always just fake shielded sheathing with normal hose clamps and AN looking covers over regular rubber line. These with fray and have many pokies from the braid coming apart.
The stock Softail supply and return lines on the tanks are just tubes not AN or even pipe threaded to make AN use feasible.

if you use some cheap china amazon dot com fake lines installed by a hack "mechanic", you get what you pay for?

anyway, i looked around for a "kit" and didnt find anything to my satisfaction. The magum lines probably would have worked, but it was gonna take to long.

I went to a friend of mine who used to make these sort lines as part of his job working on the space shuttle and later the space station. He hooked me up with a nice set, i am sure they will last longer than me.

time to close this thread before someones feelings get pricked.
