Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Last year a broke a roller lifter. rip the cam, tappet block and 1 needle bearing went into gear pump. Disassemble the engine completely and install the same new cam ev3, new roller lifter, tappet block, gear pump and complete gasket set.
The bike run good until i rev it high. back firer and engine stall in fifth gear at 85mph. Almost no power like it's running on 1 cylinder. at 30 mph the second cylinder start on it's own compression. Lots of power. until i rev it high again. in neutral i rev the engine and make backfirers and before the engine die i ear a lot of air coming out of exhaust (straight pipe). Crank the engine and like i have no compression. I wait 30 seconds and run like new again.
I recheck pushrods adjustment, install a new shorty S&S carb. check the float in the carb and rejet . check the compression. check the amp and volt at coil, regulator, batterie and stator. Everything is in spec.
Don't know what's going on. anyone can help me with this ?
Serveral thoughts:
- Are you 100% sure you have that new cam in correctly and that its not offset somehow?
- I would check the cylinder compressions as well to make sure nothings buggered
- Double check the alignment of the cam, oil drive and brether gear in the cam chest.
Reckeck and my regulator is 14.78 at 2000 rpm and 14.72 at idle.never suppose to pass 14.5 at 2000.
Did a faulty regulator can make the engine to backfirer at High rpm?
