I have been chasing excess vibration in my 2006 FLHTCUI.
Stereo system works good except for the CD player when riding at almost any speed. The engine seems to vibrate more than I like. I have replaced the front mount that was torn up and an exhaust bracket that was broken. I have gone over this bike very carefully tightening every fastener in sight including inside the fairing. Checked adjustment on the primary chain, and drive belt. The more I work on it the better it gets. I have owned this bike for just a couple of months
and intend to keep it. Any Ideas would be appreciated.
Brackets are good, no cracks.
Removed the radio, no problems to be seen. reassembled, every thing tight and secure. Checked steering head adjustment. O.K. I am getting the feeling that the problem is engine vibration. The CD player works perfectly as long as the engine is not running. I hope some one can give me an idea.
Well if you are saying it skips with the engine idling alone and not going down a road, then it must be the unit. Does the engine shake in excess? I mean big time shake. Then if not it's still probably the unit. If so then you need new mounts at least but I go down a very rough gravel road and don't have a problem so I'd guess it's the unit anyway now with this info.
35000 miles on the bike and in like new condition. Bought it just 2 months ago.
Stage 1 on it.
Found the front mount trashed. I have not pulled the rear mounts yet, I was planing on doing that with the next tire change which is a few months away.
When it stops raining, I will try operating the CD with the enging idling in the driveway and see what happens.
Much improved.
Went for a ride this morning, (2 up)
C/D still skips. Vibrations are greatly improved. Still vibrates a bit more than my 1988 FXRT which has a bunch of engine mods.
It seems to me that the Harmon Karden radio should be able to handle the amount of vibrations that is getting to it now or it should not be on any motorcycle. If there is something wrong within it, I will just except it as is.
I am just not ready to give up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
