Default Couple Qestions

Hey guys!
I have my engine I bought over at a local harley machine shop. It was originally a 5" stroke 103ci super stock, only difference this time around is the cylinders are going to be taken 30 over. With that said, I would like some suggestions for this build. First off the cam. The builder made some suggestions I would just like more options. Oil pump, anything special? And last but not least should I talk to him about machining the head for compression releases? This is going into a 84 fltc, with a shovel head clutch. Thanks for any insight.

And, how do you plan to ride? Traffic light to traffic light? 1/4 or 1/8 mile? General street use? Stay in town, or go ride out of state?

Seems like a lot of expense and work to do something that you don't yet know what to do….. Think of it like this… which came first.. the gun or the bullet? What happens is a 'weapon system' is created around a target (like a tank), and how to defeat the armor on the tank. Once that has been determined (tungsten steel bolts, or depleted uranium bolts, for target penetration..) THEN, the delivery system is created so as to deploy the weapon.
What are you trying to accomplish? What is the goal? Tell us what that is… then we could probably give you some useful feedback.

Compressions is adverage. He gave me a number and I can't remember. Besides the 30 over pistons it will be stock. I forget how more involved these cams are with starting etc then a cam in say a car. It's a bagger on a slight diet, used for in town and a bit of highway. Nothing fast. I completely forgot how much the cams could effect compression and such. I over haul stock engines. There 15l 6cyl, and way more forgiving then these little guys are. With cam choice aside for now, what about the rest?

Need to know the compression.
Those 5" arm engines pack a huge wallop, anytime, in any gear.
We've used Wood 9F's in that combo before, set at 11.2 cr, Evo.
Lieneweber L-6 cam in Shovel applications, at the advertised 10.8 cr.
Insta-torque, either.
You'd do yourself a big favor switching that Shovel clutch to a Rivera Pro Clutch.

how can it be" besides being .030 over, its basicly stock",a evo with a 5" stroke & 3.625 bore cylinders is FAR from "basicly stock".if your looking for a good, depenable runner,**** can the 5" wheels, get some 4.625 wheels and go 96"

We have those out in service with over 25,000-30,000 miles on them.
Biggest problem we see with a 5" arm is that the heavy pulsation, not vibration, causes many pieces/parts to break/fail, while the engine sits there w/o any issues, but it the root of other issues.
