Thanks, that's very helpful information, I'm not looking for performance. I'm not going to be winning any races anyway. I just want to get rid of this horrible EPA compliant N cam that the factory put in. Personally I'm leaning more toward the Ev13 or EV23 or Crane Fireball 300 or 310.

those are all about the same ive never used the 310 so from those choices I would pick the 13.. you will gain a lot of bottom end torque but you might notice a drop in your top speed. if you go that fast. the 13 and 23 both sacrifice top end hp for bottom end torque

I've never had a need on this bike to break 80mph so I don't see that as being a problem.

Amen on the EV13

I think the key to selecting the right cam is to realistically define your riding style and habits.

I am happy with my setup. It may not have the biggest numbers if I were to dyno it but it works perfect for my riding style and habits as well as the other components. It pulls right from idle and doesn't have a flat spot or dip.

Someday I might have it dyno'd just to be able to put a number to how it feels.

EV13 will bolt right in, and like any cam, will benefit from other mods that are matched to enhance it. In other words, you can slap it in and call it good or you could do a few extra things and have something even better.

It's designed for heavier bikes from idle to 4,500 rpm's. It has more low end than EV27 but a little less top end.

So again, how you ride is key.

Also the EV13 significantly reduced my engine temperature.

Sounds like the EV13 fits my needs more than the EV27. This is my laid back cruiser, I do most of my riding on it on 2 lane black top cruising at 55mph. I like crisp throttle response and low to mid range torque. I'm trying to avoid any other mods because I never know when to stop. If you pull the heads, you might as well port and polish them and since you've got it torn down that far, you might as well pull the jugs for a hone and re ring. Hell, better yet it's a good time to put that big bore kit on......kind of like, If you give a mouse a cookie

you cheated -- .025 off the heads and .030 head gaskets gives the motor .8 more compression at a reduced .035 head to deck than stock he is not doing that, its not apples is apples

with out the changes you made the EV 13 is a dud in cam choices

BUT the OP does not want seat of the pants performance so he is good with that cam choice

I put the EV-13 in the Lowrider, to replace the stock cam, not long after I got the bike. Big difference. Lot more down low grunt, & better mid-range. It did start to fall off, around 90 or so. But hell, most of my riding tends to be around 70-75 mph anyway. Stock heads & gasket. Me, my wife & bike weigh about the same as a Ultra Classic & a 180 lb rider. Pulled us on the highway & around town with no problem. Only reason I changed out , I got greedy for more power or would still be running it. Even on a FXDL. hth

Ride Safe,
Harold

Good to see that somebody gets it....numbers mean nothing if you never ride hard enough to use them.....
