Default Cam gear swap

I'm putting an EV13 into my 86 Electra Glide. How advisable to swap the cam gear? The cam coming out is original HD so no scribed marks. Any tips on something hard enough to scribe the gear or just use a fine felt tip? Is a 12 ton press enough power? Also re pushrods as mine have no colour coding is this correct - Longest to shortest - front exhaust; rear exhaust; front inlet; rear inlet.
Thanks

Swapping the cam gear means its guaranteed to be the right lash between the gears...I always do it on Evos.

I scribe using a scribe of all things.... Stanley knife will do... the scribe marks are supposed to be diametrically opposite the timing dot that aligns with the crankshaft gear (12 o'clock to the dots 6 o'clock)

Pushrods with no colours is not something I can help you with as I always mark them as they come out, even if they do have colours on...which they should do.

12 Ton press is fine.

Best wishes on your planned upgrade.

Very cool to see your '86. I know of 2 other riders in my immediate area with the exact same model and factory paint as your ride.

I have the Tour Glide version. Very odd to see identical 2 tone paint work from the factory on two different models like this.

I went with the EV27. The best change was the S&S Shorty Super E.

Thanks all
Spanners - yep 12 ton press did the job, used a piece of tungsten carbide as a scribe. Installation not quite as accurate as the bloke that did Kees' - oh well

HDs4me - thanks, that confirmed what I had scribbled down so all good or we're both wrong!

JohnyC - yeah, for some reason cool to see another similar bike of the same era. I have seen yours a few times and felt the same way. I'm a little embarrassed to see how good yours looks, out with the cleaning/polishing gear. I have picked up a CV carby and manifold and have a needle/jet kit to put in it. Just need to get the bits to mount it.

Cheers

Best wishes putting on the cv carb. It will dramatically improve performance. The butterfly carb and forever troublesome compliance fittings are a weak design and mine always gave me issues. Be sure to get fresh seals for the intake and slowly tighten each side equally, a little at a time into the heads. I pulled off the tank and horn/voes bracket to have a good open space when mounting the intake.

Sad to say mine was wrecked back in September. Had a last second left turn pulled right in front of us. I was almost stopped when we collided and we were slammed down on our right side. Wife and me were hurt, but doing better and the bike had some bad body damage. I broke my hand and 5 ribs, she broke her wrist and internal bruising, she'll be back to work in December. I hope to repair or replace the fairing, like to locate the stock radio caddy and I need to replace the crunched trunk. Hope to be back on the road by spring, here in the US.

Still plugging away at this when time permits - while checking end float on cam I notice that the inner lobe on the EV13 cam runs very close (appears to almost touch) to the machined engine case. Is it usual to have to relieve the engine case? It may not touch and I suppose a miss is as good as a mile! Any thoughts appreciated

Interesting on the pushrods. Mine are not colored either on my 1988 FLHTC. So they might be aftermarket, although I don't think any other components have been changed other than work I have done.

Anyway, I have just always put them into some holes in a cardboard box with a labelled diagram on it as I remove them, and then I re-install them in the same order and I've never had a problem.

I think the paint comes off during use.
