I had this happen to my pulley as well. Local mechanic replaced the pulley and gears too. One thing I didn't have replaced was the spring on the shifter arm assembly. It broke about 1k miles down the road. A $10 part that was a PITA to replace as it requires getting into the transmission again.
My recommendation is to replace that spring while replacing the gears due to a pulley failure. Apparently that spring is another somewhat common failure.
