Default Why did my clutch cable eyelet break?

When I went to leave my parents house tonight I pulled the clutch and was about to drop it into gear and the eyelet on the end of the cable snapped in half.

Tomorrow I am going to buy a new cable and change it, but I was wondering why it would break like that.

The bike is a 1995 Heritage Softail Classic.

That's part of the fun of a twenty year old bike-what gonna happen next?

I replaced my clutch cable a couple of years ago (well I forget exactly when to be honest) and bought a Diamondback, on a recommendation I read somewhere. It certainly is very smoooooth and improves clutch operation, so well worth considering. Technology in cable design and manufacture has moved on since our Evos where built!

Thanks guys. I figured it was age but wanted to be sure there wasn't something else I should be looking for that may have caused it.

Of course, I took a ribbing from a friend with comments like that's what you get for buying a Harley.
