Don't be ashamed to use a mechanic for your bike. I like my dealer way better than the Indy near me. Lots of good dealers, check one out near you.

I would look around and see what others would charge you..

I can understand being nervous about opening up your bike yourself.
Hell I was the same way the first time but after I did I found out how easy it is and all that nervousness went away.

Good luck and I hope you can find someone less greedy.

I am sure you are correct. Once I get started things are usually easier than I thought....

So went to the stealership today. How much to change the cam? Its $480 just for the labor.

Well ya can't just put a cam in it! You need to reprogram it. Ok what's it take? Ya gotta buy an after market programmer for your old POS. Like the Dyna Jet. Set you back $360.

That's it? **** no boy. Ya gotta dyno tune it too. That's $350

And then? Well, ya need gaskets, about $125 and cam chest kit (WTF?) $?

We done? No there's the cost of the cam, about $166.

$1481+

If this is ever to get done, I guess it will be by me.,...

EFI. Also, air cleaner upgrades and exhaust system changes require reprogramming.

THis is all new to me as I have only worked on my Shovel until now.

My first reaction is pull that EFI crap off there and put on a carb....

There are a couple people here who can tell you how to adjust that EFI correctly.

Hopefully they will chime in soon.

My 97 RK has the efi and I wish it didn't but I got it at a great price. I'm gathering (almost have everything) to do the EV27 cam swap and dump the efi for a cv carb. What I really need before digging is a little warmer temps in the garage to turn the wrenches.
In any case I'm looking forward to the change in personality the bike will gain from. I love my RK and the 93 FXR parked next to it.
Have fun and ride safe.

Cam install is handled by the thread posted, do it yourself. With just a simple cam install with A/C, exhaust you can take care of the EFI yourself, YES it is best to dyno tune EFI to adjust the air/fuel ratio but will live without with stock compression and fuel additions in some areas.

A company named Fuel Moto will sell you the Powercommander 3 tuner specially made for them by Dynojet that is cheaper, they will also load a fuel altering MAP in it based on the mods done to your bike. Like I mentioned earlier not a lot of fuel alteration is needed with the mods you are doing, will only need some fuel in the throttle roll on area and very little in other areas. Install the PC3 per instructions step by step and EFI fuel addition is done or put the money going to the PC3 for a carb conversion.

Don't be afraid to install a tuner on the EFI if that is your direction, it is simple until made complicated
