Tranny is back in the bike and was adjusting the shifter pawl attempting to use a 3/64 drill bit to get the shifter pawl even for the gapping. I know the service manual shows to use only 2 dowels on the carb side of the tranny for the shifter arms and I noticed with the shifter cam supports snugged down to the tranny that as I attempt to setup the shifter pawl to the pegs on the end of the shifter cam moving back and forth that the entire shifter cam slides a bit on the pawl end. I know that the shifter cam is not torqued down but was wondering do you guys that deal with this alot even add the 2 dowels on the pawl end supports? The supports on both ends have the cutouts for the dowls so why not use 4 dowels rather than the 2?
I think your book is wrong its the 2 front dowels one on each block with the slot facing forward
and if you look at the parts breakdown it says you need 4 dowels part number 609
I always try to put all 4 in I torque the drum down before I install the forks if it spins freely your good if not you will have to remove one or both of the rear ones to un bind the bearings
