And that was after having the CV worked on to fix an issue I was having with it.

Just out of curiosity have you switched from a CV to a Mikuni or an S&S?
I know most people say the Mikuni is supposed to the best but I prefer the simplicity of the S&S.
I don't like the Mikuni for personal reasons [only]
I have used All of the above..I find that in general a Carb should compliment the machine...CV is excellent for a Regular Putter..or Bagger. I took an S&S E off of a Shovel FLHT because I like the CV on that bike much better. S&S is indeed a Performance Carb...but in and of Itself does Not make a Performance machine..Compression, Cam, Exhaust, In most cases Cubic Inches...all Play an Important part. I have anFXR with an S&S...but It makes no difference on that bike if it is an E or a B.
I run an Edelbrock QwiksilverII on a '74 FX [no E..Kick Only] not likely to change that one..Tho the Bendix I Had on it was...Fair.
Hell I can make a Butterfly Keihin Work...I just do Not prefer those anymore than I could Tolerate the old Tillotson!!!
I believe in the "Package" approach!! Not all my Bikes are DragBikes.....

I get what you are saying about a package approach but like I said I got way better performance (not horsepower or torque) out of my S&S than I did out of my CV.
It just works better IMO.

Get yourself a gallon of carb cleaner , take off anything that is rubber and put the carb and anything that will come apart in for an overnite soak and throw in a carb kit, reset the float as the new need won't be same as old and all will be well again like happy clouds.
