Message for those using Valvoline VR1: I also was using VR1 till I read the part on the label that says not to use it with a catalytic converter. I switched to the motorcyle Valvoline dino oil and the bike still runs nice and quiet.
If your engine passed oil pass the rings like a Ford, certain additives can damage the cat. That is why those two additives we're removed from car and pickup truck oils. For owners have always had oil issues, but their engines do hang in there for a while.
This goes in the transmission and primary. Valvoline 20-50 motorcycle blend in the engine.
That's exactly what I put in trans and primary. Really surprised more people here don't stick with the H-D brand? And I did the H-D360 20w-50 in motor. I have found with my metric sticking with the mfg brand takes all the guess work out of it. But this being my 1st H-D it's still rather new to me. Really am loving the simplicity of my EVO tho. Thanks FB!
And all you guys crack me up! Happy Monday, got a chuckle reading through this whole thread again! Nice to give it back to the twinkies when we can huh? LOL, I've been bashed over there a time or 2 as well.
Well, HD used to make a specific Primary Chaincase Oil. We all had it on the shelf. Then the discontinued it five or more years ago, and that opened up the debates. I agree that the MoCo transmission oil is going to be OK, but the same stuff in the primary makes our bikes shift hard, or makes it hard to find neutral, etc. ATF in the primary sure solves that problem, and I use the Mobil SHC630 in the transmission because if I'm not buying primary oil from the MoCo, may as well use what I have for the transmission too. The SHC630 is a lifetime fill-and-forget fully synthetic heavy equipment lube that Lotus used as a basis for their transmission fluid for a while (SHC630M) to keep Renault gearboxes from grenading at 20+% over their rated power.

Think I will give that a shot. When I get my throttle cables in I am going to do in and adjust the clutch and might as well try the new fluid you recommended as well. Thanks again!
#1 reason I dont use HD anything is citgo, is venezuela; **** venzuela. Secondly, there are much better products out there. If you're having to guess, then you shouldnt be turning wrenches anyways. Read your manual.

Taking ALL recommendations into consideration, I will no longer be using HD oil. I have ordered these for the Trans and Primary. Will probably stick with Valvoline for the motor as well when the time comes.
