Default Myth or Truth ???

While I did research on the Road King I read some where that 98' model is easier to find more aftermarket parts than the 94-96 models. Any grain of truth or someone barking up the wrong tree?

Btw suggestion on where to find parts for any of these years would help in the future. I am familiar with Ebay and J&P already just not sure what other places sell anything for the Evo years of the King. Kinda new territory for me.

Another odd question I can't find an answer to is: On the 94-98 RK did they of the chip in the key cause I really cant figure out when they started microchipping keys. All the the new security system with the fobs is nice but hate the idea of having to have a special key just to make a copy.

There was a frame change in 1997, you can use parts up til about 2008. Not sure about micro chipping keys. Neither my 97 or 98 are chipped, Both are Electra Glides.

I have a 95 flht.
It is harder to find accessories for the 94 to 96 models because of a frame change. They also use a different seat.
I was able to add a removable tourpak using 97 parts so some things work even though they say they won't.
If I had to choose between a 94-96 and a 97 or later model, I would probably go with a later model.

I guess that mean I need to look for an 97 or 98 model. I am glad to hear they don't have a chip in the key.

+1

Delphi EFI is far better than Magneti Marelli, so if you buy a pre-1999 Touring, go best for a carbureted Evo.

That's going to be a tough one to find an 97 or 98 with carbs. Btw why not efi? I was told they are just as good on a 98 as the later TC.

I think that is easier to find a Touring with carbureted Evo rather than EFI.

About MM EFI on those years, well, there is much literature about failures, furthermore is a bit difficult to tune if you want to do because MM Efi has fewer support. (Only used from 1995 to 2001).

Man I'm more confused than an old man with dementia. Sh*t I was first told EVO doesn't do as good on a touring bike than a TC. Then I was told EFI was just as reliable as in the later years except 2000-2001. Then I remembered someone telling me of the headaches of the TC top end. They would have to be changed to gear instead of what came on a stock. I also was told of a know issue with a certain part,if failed on the TC would case an engine to fail. That's why I wanted a Evo for the known reliability. Then there is guys bashing carbs. Then they started on the lack of aftermarket parts before 97. I now don't know what heads or tails now.
