Evo questions
On my 91 FXRS it has a Screamin Eagle ignition module that has 8000 rpm printed on the top of it. Stupid question time... Does it mean the engine is allowed to rev up to 8K? If that's the case then what's the advantage in being able to do that? I would think it would cause engine problems at some point.
I'm sure this has been asked one or two thousand times before... What do you need to do in order to make the choke **** stay when you pull it out? I had problems even on my old 03 FXDL. It's really hard to warm up the bike when the **** wants to pull itself back in, unless you baby sit it, but then you can't get ready to ride if you do baby sit the choke.

Question 1: Wither or not your ignition will let the motor rev to 8k there is no way I would try it.
Question 2: There is a plastic jam nut that you can tighten up (don't use a wrench as you will probably break it). You can find it just behind the choke ****.
FWIW I recommend starting your bike with the choke then rev it up a little with the throttle and use the throttle lock to keep it running. Disengage your choke when you rev up the throttle.

If your doesn't have the jam nut assembly behind the **** (be careful how tight you make this, on older setups they deteriorate and will break) you can use side cutters to put a crimp in the cable shield to add some retention to the cable.

The motor probably won't pull to 8K anyway. The valves will float before that, probably around 6. Best to keep an eye on things or have a good feel for it if your going to nail it, especially in a low gear.
For a cold start: Petcock on. Pull choke. Two twists on the throttle to juice up the carb. 99% of the time she fires right off. Immediately but gently push in the choke while operating the throttle as needed to keep it running. Tighten down the throttle lock, keeping the engine at about 1500 or so.
By the time I've got my jacket, hat and gloves on, she will idle nicely.
That's just where the "rev limiter" is set on that particular ignition module, which, for most Evo engines, is like saying "no limiter".

I was used to 6K to 6.2K with my old EVO when really getting on it with the Crane Hi4E module.
Now I seem to keep hitting the limiter at about 5.2K on my Rushmore. Gonna have to adjust that!

8K rev limit is just a ***** extension, the money you would have to spend to get it to rev that high and not explode is pretty epic....what many people really don't get is that H-D know their motors, they designed them to do certain things and so it can get messy when you make that design "better" without the rest of the re-engineering that is required.
