Default 21 inch wheel impressions

A few months ago I was asking Chris, a fallen evo compatriot (2015 touring, user cpbedor ) who sold his evo with a 21 inch front wheel about ride quality. He said it was just fine.

Panhead Rich started this nonsense with his awesome thread about the Ultima King Spoke wheels on his beautiful springer. I subscribed to the thread and bought just a front wheel after reading it all. I mean to say that I pulled the trigger because I thought they looked sick. < dyna speak.

Some of the text got cut off.

The ride quality is fine. I paired it up with a Pirelli Night Dragon and it was superb, excellent tire. The ride quality did not suffer at ask, not one bit!

Never been a big fan of this type of set-up but doesn't look too bad. Me personally , I think the spokes need to be black & ditch the butt ugly stock harley caliper. Sticks out like a sore thumb. But , hey it's your ride & what ever makes ya happy.

Ride Safe,
harold

Funny story about the calipers, Harold. I sold some Brembo calipers to somebody in the hdforums environment and he is planning a special project.

I'm starting tuned in for that one. Lol

Put a 120/70-21 on there next time, a Metz 880, best ride I've found for a 21. They are fatter and don't dive into road snakes...

Did you have to lift the fender for it to fit? Or just slide the axle in and bolt up the brakes?

Fender was nada.
Calipers and the Speedo drive were tough, the Speedo would not preload the wheel bearings for nothing (left side for those not in the know) this impacted the spacing on the left side caliper. Of course I threw caution to the wind and went for a 1 mile jaunt using only the rear brake. Everything went back to normal after that fiasco.

The ride suffered no ill effects nor did it improve anything. Being honest it does look not full enough in the fender if you're looking for that. It rained terribly coming home one night and that Pirelli was the *****!

Softail forum members claim a 23 inch wheel will fit into a stock fender with zero modifications. Can't speak to that but a 21" fit just fine.

Fatter? Metzler measures 120 millimeters differently than Pirelli?

I will see about those tires though next time, Doug. I have heard a lot of praise for them. I think thc likes them and he puts on some mileage too.
