Default 1991 Paint

Anyone know if the factory was using basecoat/clearcoat in 1991. I haven't painted anything in 35 years.

I had a 1991 Heritage. It was a dark sort of burgundy or purple (depending on the angle) color. Beautiful paint on that bike.

My 91 Springer has the two tone Sapphire colors which I love, but wasn't sure of the paint type.

I think '91 colours are similar to the '90 colours and the metallics are almost clear, over a base coat. Mine is Hi-Fi Candy Blue, or something close to that.

Always loved that color. As I remember, H-D discontinued it early on in the model year. I was told they had trouble matching the plastic (fiberglass) parts painted in Wisconsin with the sheet metal parts painted in York, PA.

I can well imagine that! I bought my bike new and reckoned that every part was a different shade! She's a solid powder blue now, yet to be photographed and shown in public for the first time.
