I would like a little brighter tail light than the 8 watts that my 1157 bulbs are putting out on the dim filament. I see that the H1157 bulb puts out 15 watts but Im wondering if heat generation would be an issue. Anyone running these or found a brighter alternative to the standard 1157 for tail light? Thanks

I use 1 in the rear fender/brake-running light.
Put them in my front & rear turn signals to start out, for a total of 5. Lights would dim, pretty bad when I braked or used signals, so pulled the other 4 out. They draw too much current, but boy they were bright. And they do get hot.
Got smart & put em in my wifes 07 VW bug & melted the tail-light housing.
Heard about that for a long time.
If you can swing the price or get one used, a BrightAssLight is terrific. It's literally so bright it'll hurt your eyes if you look at it and you can set it to different flash patterns before going solid bright red if you like.
If that's too spendy, I got a great LED taillight panel from Custom Dynamics that plugs right in.
These LED's are going to be about 10 times as bright as any incandescent bulb. And I've had problems burning the socket and/or the reflector when I tried to run higher wattage bulbs than the socket was designed for.
Don't try the cheap LED 1157 bulbs you can get on eBay. They are cheap for a reason. I wasted my money trying one. You can't tell the difference between brake and running light, at least on the one I tried.
Here's a video I did comparing the stock 1157 to Brightasslight on my Evo RK.
I used dual element bulbs on my V rod...I picked up a used set of front turn signals an put them on the back mounted off the upper shock mounts....I wired the dimmer element to the turn signals an the brighter to the stop light circuit. I still have a reg tail/stop light I just want to make sure I'm seen when I stop.
