I just had an idea on how to wire up the accessory port/cig lighter(yes it don't work cause the PO wiring mishap). I was thinking that if use like 12 to 14 gauge wire coming off the battery. Then have a fuse and a 12v 30 amp car relay in between the battery and port on the positive wire. Then run a 16 gauge remote wire from the relay to the switch that turns on the bike.
I figured with this setup,I can copy the same function as you would turning the key to kill the power to the port.
Anyhow its just an idea...
Also thought of just direct connect to battery but thought of the idea above as a fail safe in case I forget to unplug the phone from charger.
Seems like a whole lot of effort needlessly, especially considering many guys already have a trickle charger pigtail on their battery. Since the connector is there for trickle charger anyway, then why not get additional functionality out of it?

Joe you are way overthinking this.
There is no need to wire in an additional relay and fused wire to add a charging port.
All you have to do is wire the plug into the ignition switch, lights, horn, or anything else that only comes on when you turn on the ignition switch.
Current draw on a cell phone charger is very very little.
Stock Harley battery is rated for about 20 amp hours. The cell phone will reach full charge before the bike battery is depleted. Once the phone is charged, it's going to draw even less if anything at all. Plus, that would be a scenario where the bike wasn't running for none of the time while the phone is charging. With the bike running, obviously the bike's charging system takes over.
Speaking of overkill, I've got a 720 cranking amp battery on my Heritage LOL
Joe. do it your way. It gives you the ability to add heated gear (if you're into that) or anything else you want as it's a separate circuit.
But you and electrical stuff that others have messed with have bad outcomes. LOL
