How much gas can you put in a 5 gallon tank? I know..it sounds like "whos buried in Grants tomb" but, does it actually hold more than 5 gallons? 5.2? 5 1/2?

When I get on reserve i've got about 1/2 gallon left. From there if I top it off all the way I get about 4.6 gallons in it.
I can put 5 gallons in mine and still have a little room left.
I know this because I drained my tanks to work on it then went to the gas station and put 5 gallons in a gas can which I then put into the bike.
Just out of curiosity why do you care???
It's not like you're gonna ride it till it's dry then fill again.

I was testing my new Golan petcock today and I rode till I thought i was getting close to empty based on my mileage and still had not flipped it to reserve. When I filled up, I put 4.8 gallons in it. When I installed the petcock, I put some gas in the tanka dn then drained it until it stopped running out and then flipped the valve to reserve adn it seemed like there was about a gallon left but, after today, that is not possible. I am talking to Golan about getting the longer pickup tube. I think they should send me one for free. If the reserve is actually, .1 or .2 gallons, that not enough reserve in my book.

FWIW the other day my mother put way more gas in her tank (car) than it could have possibly have held.
I suspect that gas station was saying it pumped more gas than it actually did.
I don t think so. I get 34 MPG pretty consistently and I had gone 164 miles.
Is there any chance you had it on reserve already??
I have been guilty of that before.
At a guess at best that petcock is giving you 1/2 gallon reserve and that just ain't enough IMO.
Actually, no. On these, you flip the lever forward and it says "ON", flip it back and it says "RES". I had it forward. I agree. 1/2 gallon is not enough. I need to be able to go 25-30 miles if I need to.
