I don't have my shop manual on me and need to know what part this is, and what its called so I can order a new one.

Its not broken, just looks like crap.

I think I have a brushed aluminum one in my parts shed if you want me to look.

Make sure you're ok with the replacement steps. Check out this thread:

Mine looks exactly like yours. I'm planning to sand and polish it instead of messing with the tear down. They make chrome caps that fit over the existing piece too. They run around $50.

According to the gurus around here you can take off the cam cover (gear cover) without disassembling the motor.

You just have to rotate the motor until the notch in the end of the cam is in the 5 o'clock position and then use something to hold the cam in place while removing the cam cover.

Thanks for the info!!!

If the ebay cover doesn't work out, then I will have to replace it. As you can see in the pic, the chrome is peeled off and bare steel is exposed.

I will seek the aid of my father-in-law with this since he said he replaced one before.

that isn't "bare steel", it's aluminum.
