some of the air filters take power away harleys air filter is called a still air box and stock it works as should if you add mods then modding the still air box is needed like spanners has said
...From what I can tell, the MoCo has discontinued the required Screamin Eagle part. Is it worth trying to track one down anyway?
Custom Chrome/Revtech sells a product that is nearly identical to the SE air cleaner kit. I found one at a swap meet for $20 and put it on my 1990 FLHS. Though I have high-flow SE mufflers, and this air cleaner is designed for more air flow, I'm not completely convinced there are any noticeable gains in using this air cleaner setup. The bike is otherwise stock. I almost feel the bike ran better with the stock airbox unmodified, and am considering going back to the stock airbox, modified as Omaha did to see what my 'butt-dyno' tells me.
Did you rejet your carb after changing you mufflers and drilling out your backing plate?
Thanks, Todd
Actually, I did it before. Plugs seemed lean when I first pulled them last year when I got the bike, so I rejetted richer. When I re-checked the plugs, it looked like I over-did it.
I'm feeling like it's pretty close. My indy next door has a dyno. I may run it over there and get an actual measurement and see what's up.
