Default Shocked

I'm shocked.........I bought myself a 1994 FXSTC thinking that as it was the great Harley Davidson brand....famous the world round for being American and proud of it...that it would have been Made In America. As of yet I have found the front forks and front brake disc stamped Made In Japan and the speedo console with a Taiwan sticker on it. I'm just wondering what other parts of the bike are made somewhere other than U.S.A.
I know we are in a global marketplace now but I didn't realize we were back in 94.

A lot. More than should be. All in the name of profit.

Forks have been made by showa(japan) since the seventy's...your caliper and dash are probably aftermarket.

That's what I was thinking. This is my dash

I've been looking at other dashes of the same era on the same model of bike and the light windows are triangular not rounded like on mine.. I've taken mine off and it seems to be a bit cobbled up on the back of it, i.e. adapted to fit, so much so that I can't see the indicator lights flashing on the dash in normal daylight because the bulb is having to shine through 2 lenses, a bit difficult to explain, anyway I like the look of the original one the best so I'll try and source one.

You better be thankful for Japan, Porsche, and AMF or your evo wouldn't be nowhere near as good as it is.

Do keep up, there's a good chap! My first new Harley back in 1974 wasn't all American either. This is not a recent 'problem'. Enjoy what you have for what it is.

I don't consider it a "problem", I have no doubts about the quality of Japanese motor products, I'm well aware of their world-leading quality control standards. Having worked for companies that supplied parts to Honda UK I know how strict they are so I have no qualms about using Japanese products, in fact I have just sold my Toyota MR2 which was a fantastic car and at 24 years old was still going like a rocket. The point I think I am trying to make is that after reading lots of disparaging remarks about Japanese bikes by Harley owners I was under the illusion that hence Harleys would be 100% U.S.A. made. I'm old enough to remember when British bikes were 100% British made but then look what happened to the British motorcycle industry, I believe I am correct in saying that some modern Triumph bikes are made in Taiwan.
