First the o-rings won't stop a motor from sealing.
Personal experience with that one.
I have used both James and Cometic metal gaskets and they both worked fine.
You're gonna need to get new head and base gaskets and I recommend Cometic MLS for the head and SLS for the base.
If you use those you don't need O-rings.
From what I have read most people who do this for a living say that the magic numbers for head and base gaskets are 20 thou base and 30 thou head.
As mentioned earlier I think the motor isn't sealing because of improper head tightening.
Follow the directions on your instruction sheet not the book!
This right here , always follow torquing procedures and assembly instructions that come with the gaskets or parts in question unless there are none then revert to the factory manual.
Took apart again and removed O-rings in question, like some one said earlier the gasket doesn't appear to need o-rings , the holes are a tight fit. Fired it up today and all is well, used existing gaskets so we will see how they last. Went on line and appearently HD and other makers don't use O-rings anymore so be careful. Trust me these O-rings did not flatten out and made an ungodly noise I will remember for awhile .. anyways thanks for the responses
did you happen to notice that when you use gaskets with O-rings, the holes are larger in the gasket, when you use gaskets that do not have O-rings, the holes are smaller in the gaskets?
when not using o-Rings the holes must be the size of the guides for the gasket, so they can't move around.
