The front isn't the problem but I've never gotten the rear apart without treating it like a jigsaw puzzle!!!!
The first time I tried I spent at least an hour possibly two moving that middle rocker cover all kinds of ways but I could never get it to come out on it's own.
Damn thing drove me crazy!!!!!!!!!
Mine is the same way, the rear middle rocker box ring won't clear the rocker arm assembly and the frame even though the "book" say it will. I ended up replacing the gaskets and flapper valves without completely removing the middle ring last time.


Just letting you know you're not crazy.

It's been awhile, but I think I took the middle box and rocker support out together on my softail
