I know, trial and error, someone must know the effects of valve spring pressure to adjustable rods, there is that theory of shorter rods and more oil in lifters, but does that cause slack at certain rpms or crank them down to practical a solid lifter/tolerance...??.. Too many factors.
AND !!!!!! I'm still getting 30# oil pressure at a hot idle !!! GO figure....
You have an ev27 don't think it's ever going to be quiet. My 3010 is quieter than a Honda at idle.

Keep in mind that there are several different brands of adjustable pushrods out there and they use several different thread pitches. This means that the correct number of "turns" may be different, depending on th pushrods you are using.

Just a minor highjack/update again... I wish I did just put the stock rods back in, curious how it would sound. Sooooooo, on on my third and tightest adjustment I will attempt, if anymore adjustment, it will be in the less than four turns direction. Here is where I'm at, 31 flats,(0.1612) ONLY .039 away from max going for a morning cruise now and see how it sounds, will post later.

I put the stock rods back in when I did my top end.
It doesn't sound bad at all.

I've had both the stock pushrods and adjustables (S&S and Andrews). Bike sounds about the same: Like a sewing machine on amphetamines.

But I'm old and losing my hearing....

There was a service bulletin issued years ago to "inspect and/or replace" lifters at 25,000 miles.
EV-27's have aggressive ramps.
Load the lifters to .140".
S&S lifters
50W in ambient temps between 60-80 degrees to help maintain proper lifter "hydrology".

That's what I've been trying to indicate to others. They put in bigger cams and some with head work and new springs and don't realize how much more pressure they're putting on the lifter and that is why they are getting more clatter at higher preloads because they're lifter just cant handle it. Less oil cushion in the lifter....

But you can see on my notes what I have tried and where started out, I'm also thinking need more oil cushion in lifters, maybe like .125"

I think that truly depends on what lifters you use...

When you got to a more advanced camshaft, ramps lift etc. I really Don't think a standard lifter is gonna suffice. There's a reason S&S cost more.....

You know, don't expect a caddy when you bought a valiant.....
