When you got to a more advanced camshaft, ramps lift etc. I really Don't think a standard lifter is gonna suffice. There's a reason S&S cost more.....

You know, don't expect a caddy when you bought a valiant.....
Did you just say we're all riding around on a two wheel valiant ? LOL ahh, slant six, great engine... Well maybe I shouldn't have bought screaming eagle lifters, thought they were quality. Oh well... run it till it don't run.

Slant Six was a great motor... Couldn't kill it however you could hear the lifters coming down the street. They first came out with solid lift. Noisy as hell but very reliable.....

Anyways think about what I said. If you preload your lifters to .140" and they remain quiet then the plunger is not leaking by, as well as the check ball bearing. Now If your lifter is quiet at .125" but noisy at .140" then the lifter is loosing it's pump and then that lifter would require more oil in it to keep it from collapsing (or a bigger cushion). It's very possible that some lifters have less clearance between the plunger and the lifter body not allowing the lifter to collapse hence the caddy or a valiant.. Because the tolerance is different between all the manufacturers out there some lifters will do better than others at keeping their fluid in them...

So preload will make a difference, if lifter "A" is a cheaper lifter and not manufactured to closer tolerances than lifter "B" which will cost more, then lifter "B" will be less likely to loose it's prime or pump and be quieter than lifter "A" under higher preloads...

Well set at .161" didn't seem to quiet anything down at all, so I took Scott's advice and set it at .140" and call it a winner and pretend I'm a seamstress while I'm riding. (27 flats)

I put the EV27 in my bike at approximately 30k miles with a Mikuni 42. Reused the stock push rods (removed rockers) and replaced lifters with new OEM from HD. Very quiet and hauls the mail for sure.

Anytime I think my bikes are making funny noises, I take the Flathead for a ride, everything else is Rolls Royce quiet after that.
