Default 91 ULTRA. Carb Flooding.

My old 91 Ultra, now a Bagger, has been performing well over the last month or two. Today however I smelled Gas (petrol uk}.After a quick check I see that the Gas is flowing freely from the Carb overflow pipe.
I started the Ultra and took it for a 3 hour run. When I returned everything was ok,no smell and no overflow. I have a strange feeling this problem is going to appear again. Possibly the float or what.? Bungo

It could have been just a small particle of debris that got between the needle & seat & when you took your 3 hour ride it dislodged itself. If it happens again drain the fuel tank & clean the strainer (filter) on the fuel petcock.

Cleaning the needle seat with polishing compound and a q-tip is also a good idea if you have it apart.

And if you get in that deep, you may as well put in a new needle valve and re-set the float level.

It's a lot easier to fix now ( at home ) then on the side of the road.

And don't forget little black particles in the bowl is a good indication of the fuel line disintegrating. Might be time to replace that as well..
