Been a wile sense I've been here been hanging over at the sportster forum wile I was building my hardtail ironhead
Anyway I'm in the middle of making my 84 flhtc into a trike and have run into a snag
Can't find any raked triple trees that say they will work with my bike found some that go back to 87 but most only go to 97
I do see an adjustable set that say 83 to 84 but I know the early 84's where shovel head with a 4 speed and my late is an evo with a 5 speed had to ship a swingarm back because of the difference but figure that may just be because of the two direct trany
Any one here able to tell me if the triple trees changed withe the motor change
Jolly good question. With your bike you are on the cusp between shovel and Evo eras, with many early parts carrying over. Use one of the on-line parts websites to check part numbers. Your '84 seems to have '#45431-79B, FORK STEM AND BRACKET', same as a late shovel.

4 speed trees will not work...FLHT's have touring "backward" trees.
Any of the newer touring trees will bolt on and work as far as the suspension goes...but they will not work with the ignition switch and fork lock ...but can be made to work with heavy modification.
I am running a 83 lower tree with a 97 top tree in order to run a newer fairing.
