Show me your ignition, if it's like mine, you can disconnect the yellow jumper so the lights only work when you turn it to lights not in ignition.
Then once it starts, turn it to lights.

The jumper is yellow between the lights terminal and the ignition terminal. The picture is the ignition upside down, so everything is reversed. The jumper is accessed from the top.

My Glide has the same set-up as Ranger's, although the switch is the typical Glide's in appearance. That facility for a separate Lights position faded out in the early '90s IIRC.

It just occurs to me that Hyacinth has auto CRs, which operate just like the lights on our later bikes, but in reverse (they operate while cranking, then switch off once running), so along with later bikes that is two examples of automatic functioning while starting.

This is a long shot..... but on my 98 Electra Glide/Road King there are 2 toggle switches on the nacelle. One kills the power to the whole bike and headlights While the other just turns on the fog lights. Its an idea if you want that setup.

My only beef with my bike's setup is the "ignition switch" does nothing in a way of electrical. It's job is only lock the forks.

Joe, that doesn't sound like a stock set-up! I suspect a PO has been in there, possibly bypassing a dodgy main switch.

According to the micro fiche it is for a 98 King but I really need someone who owns one of the same year to confirm.

The two toggle switches on my bike operate the fender lights and passing lights. But then it predates the RK!
