I have a hard time believing putting a better motor on it won't make it worth more. I c bike all over the place on aftermarket frames going for 6000-10,000. It's a good looking bike with some nice parts on it. I don't see why I couldn't get something in that range.
It'll still be a hard tail and that has a very small market to sell to.
It's not a real HD on the title making it even less interesting to more folks.
Seeing them for sale at a price doesn't mean they sold them for that price.

You did well at 3k on it.
Griz
did u c the photos? I totally agree with the hardtail and not real hd but if I had an hd motor and tranny (hd transmission is what's on it now) or an s&s 6-7 would seam reasonable? This is all speculation really tho. I love the look of this bike and wouldn't really consider selling for a very long time when I'm older and just can't ride a hard tail anymore
Please stop trying to make it worth a lot more money. You did well on the purchase and could flip it quickly for a 1-2 thou profit but the market for all of those cookie-cutter choppers collapsed. Just be glad you did not get into it for big bucks before the nosedive.
Just ride and enjoy, we'll be here if and when something breaks.
Seriously listen to Beemer, It's a nice bike at a great deal but will never be more than 6K..... If it runs good and has no issues just enjoy and and don't throw your money away unless you have a Sugar Momma.....
If you have to pay someone to install a new engine, then you need to step back. A new engine or gently used one is going to a couple thousand at least. Then however much labor will be, probably one or two thousand.
Considering a genuine Harley powered by an Evo can be had for $3,500 to $5,500 and will not drop in value anymore since that is the floor, a parts bike is hardly an investment.
Enjoy it for what it is, but forget any illusions of increasing its value. The non standardization of these parts bin assembled bikes is what ultimately led to the drying up of that market, a market that was created out of the low production numbers and high demand of Harley's in the 90's.
I bought my 1990 Glide new and have done a ton of work on it. If I had all the cash I've spent on it over the years in my back pocket today I could buy a new CVO and still have change. My bike is probably worth less than I paid for it. Which is by way of confirming that spending money on your bike is not going to add value, except to you. By all means repaint it (done that!), change the engine (done that too!) and any other upgrades that you fancy, but do it for your own pleasure and satisfaction, not as an 'investment'.
