Check to see if the float is "loaded" (heavy)

Is the float hollow (plastic, metal) or fibrous?

This may be hard for you (unless it's hollow) if don't have anything for comparison

Compared to the cost of a new S&S Super E or Mikuni HSR42, it's something to consider if you're looking to save some money. Trying to find a consensus on 'favorite' carb is like asking: 'What cam?' or 'What oil?'....

Have you checked the float needle seat? Sometimes you get build up or wear on the actual seat that a new needle will not cure.

Never did it myself but I hear there is a trick to cleaning the seat with polishing compound or similar.

Also so check for body warpage where the two halves meet. YD

I've cleaned it out the best I could- There is a guy an hour away that can rebuild it for me, I'm tempted- but worried when I take it home, if it will be the same way.

Well then confirm there's no gas inside the float...happens more than you might think in the automotive applications

She's hollow.

I took it over to a buddy who's a mechanic on base here-
The drain screw is kinda pooched, all knicked up around the end, he set the correct float height with a vinear caliper.

When I put the carb back on and tested it, it was like a gas explosion. It went everywhere.

In the black- I'm now shopping for the HSR42 Easy Kit. And then I'm gonna throw this CV in the River.

My buddy from town took the CV in to his shop and left it in the ultrasonic cleaner over the weekend.

Works beauty. We'll never know what it was exactly- although I'm placing my bets on something in the needle seat.
It was a cold day here so after cleaning its wet-sump puke, I left it.

Should be good to go in a few weeks.

Cheers,

You've said that twice now. I think you made a wise decision by letting someone else tackle this
