I recently picked up a new air cleaner for my '94 road king. I got it used off eBay and it looks to be a SE A/C but I am unsure what you would call the black ring part that the Allen wrench bolts go through at the very mouth of the carb intake is called.
It's starting to crack around the bolts and I'm wondering if it would be worth replacing. Anyone know what it's called?
Ugh... My 1993-94 FPM does not show that part on the OEM carb or air cleaner pages. So I'll dig out the old SE installation sheet:
The part is referred to as a Venturi. It has no dedicated part number. Which means, you'll need to scour the swap meets, eBay, CL, and other places for one.
I'm considering swapping out my SE air filter kit and going with the Ness Stage 1 that will allow me to use the OEM cover. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/400-867 The SE kit has a lot of parts, where as the Ness (and others) have a lot less hardware.
I used to have that setup on my bike. My Venturi was also cracked as I remember. I replaced it with an Arlen Ness "big sucker", which was a simpler setup, without the external breather plumbing.
I might be able to hook you up via Texashillcountry. He sent me a full carb setup I was going to save for a Bud but he just picked up another bike. I have a Big Sucker so I won't need them. I'd send it on to you for the cost of shipping.
I love the EVO bro's on this forum!!! Helping each other out whenever we can!
BTW, I just order two Big Sucker Stage 1 kits. One for my 93 and one for my son's 99. So my SE air cleaner assembly is available to anyone who needs parts or wants one.
Wow! what a response, I definitely feel at home here. Thanks Hackd and rizzo!
You're welcome! And welcome to EVOland!
Get the part from rizzo, because it's just the venturi that you need. Shipping on that will be a lot cheaper than me sending you the whole shebang (and I don't want to part it out in case someone wants it all).
You'll learn to hate the SE assembly. I've had mine on since 1994. It's just a real PITA to pull/replace the carb off/on the bike with all that 'monkey motion' stuff The MoCo 'engineered' into it.
Main reason I'm spending the $$$ for the Ness kit. And my son wants one too, so might as well order up a pair.
