First my bike 96 heritage has EV27 cam s&s shorty E
Did top end freshen up this winter went .005 over and a valve job with some mild port work. Found the factory ignition pick up melted on tare down.
Its been suggested to me to go with something like a Dyna2000i but I'm realy hesitant to put a module like that into same area that had heat issues to begin with.
Going single fire module under the seat sounds smart to me but I'm looking for a little input on other setups that have worked out well
Don't be Hesitant to do an all in one. The Dyna2ki is a great and reliable ignition as well as the Ultima which is a little less money. Also you don't have to go with a single fire. as long as your dual fire coil is around 2.7-2.8 ohms your good to go and will work with either of the 2 ignitions I mentioned.... there really isn't any significance in going to a single fire except for in the pocket..... The best thing about these to ignitions is that they have an led light that will make it so simple to set the base ignition timing.... Good luck......
I was hesitant to put an expensive control module in the cam chest because of what the heat did to the original pickup
Is there any truth to the single fire making the engine run smoother

You have to remember that those ignition modules are designed with that heat in mind.
As for single fire making an engine run smoother....they won't.
huh, look at that...I didn't even know they made externals.....I went with a crane h4 external like that ultima kit on my tour glide, just cause I got it cheap....but it was more of a pain to install then it was worth (the bikes a 89 so I had to splice into the harness to use it)....I did the cone ignition from ultima on my fxr and so did a buddy of mine on his softail, no problems, super quick, waaaayyy easier to install.........
Both those kits have extras for fuel injected bikes. You don't need all that. And the pick up or cam position sensor is made by Standard Motor Products. You can get that one on fleaBay for $40. I know cause I have one...
