Default Another tour pack inquiry...

I have a 1996 FLHT Classis Electra Glide. After searching and becoming totally spun around by the many threads (that generally involve 97 and up bikes), here is my query. I'd like to pull the tour pack, I don't have the quick mount setup and probably won't find the right one for my skinflint wallet. So, once the pack comes off, I would like to also rid the bike of the mounting frame. Any hints or ideas before I jump in and start turning bolts? Brackets that I should or shouldn't mess with? Thanks.

Careful what you wish for. Do you also want to refit the tourpak, such as for days/trips out? It is only held on the mounting frame by four bolts. When I installed a tourpak on my bike I also used a qd electrical plug, which is a twist off/on device, so I can remove/refit mine in a few moments. The mounting frame is of course a thing of great beauty, so if you're a skinflint and don't want to blow out on a qd rack then leave it alone!

I just undid the antenna and there was already a disconnect on the lights. Ultimately I want to go to a different seat that drops me lower and farther back, which will entail the removal of the rack. Not really anticipating long tours requiring the box, and if I do the refit shouldn't be a huge deal. But I came up with a $10 solution to the ugly rack frame with the multiple holes and blah chrome. Home depot has 12 x 12 pieces of bright, thin diamond plate. Made a cardboard template, cut to size and set the holes up, four stainless 1/4-20 cap screws and washers. I muffed one small corner of the cut (used a jigsaw since my little cutoff tool is on loan.....) but it requires a close look to care. Light years better than the factory surface.
I will still end up pulling g the rack eventually, but for now this works and still let's me go to the pack if I want. I can't figure the photo attachment process so I can't upload one.

I used all 97 and up parts to add a removable tour pack to my 95 Flht.

Everything is available.
