If you think about it, on a normal set up, the carb vacuum is constantly pulling on the head breathers to vacuum off crank pressure.
Where, one venting hose to atmosphere is not getting the job done.

Why do you think that???
S&S is good with the engine design (they really ought to know what they are talking about) so why are you unhappy with it?
FWIW you would be amazed at how little a hole it really takes to vent something.
Aces what do you have for breathers now is it the tube 2 into 1 behind the backing plate or is it two separate fittings with hoses that T into 1
Right now both heads have separate outlets then hosed together with a T fitting in the middle with another hose dropping dn to the bottom of tranny open ended.
And that is exactly where I rerouted mine back to,but I'm the only one I believe. All has been perfect venting for years, before and after my build. Oil to the carb indicates a problem, too much oil in the tank or something else. But maybe the bottom breather is just better.

Oil running back into the carb can become carbon up.
Maybe after your motor is worn out in ten years, twenty years,it should be running clean.
maybe depending on the engine set up.
Old timer bought a new bike about 10 yrs ago and kept have problems with carbon build up until he rerouted the breather out to open air.
Also the breather is putting hot air in the carb with dirty oil.

There are many options for aftermarket oil recovery/breather venting system
. Krank vent makes a check valve type of unit also, that controls oil misting. The old man probably kept his oil level right to the full mark which is a no no ..imho... Plug checking would reveal any potential carbon building. Like Texas said,It doesn't take a big hole to vent her out.. you'll find something..
