Yes, the aftermarket cable is also straight across to the horn bracket for a CV or Mikuni
Mine comes out the back of carb towards the front of bike the 90s towards the left side of bike to go around the intake manifold then curves to the rear then hooks right to the bracket where it mounts. To the right of the horn bracket bolt. In my opinion all the bending takes up the "slack" in the cable. I don't see how else to route it

Sometimes a CV plunger and spring is used in a Mikuni when crossing from a CV and it won't work, we are just trying to make sure your not over looking a problem before changing jets and adjustments
