Put on a good 60 miles this Sunday. I think the temps were in the mid 80's. After a warm-up around the area I hit the interstate and went about 25 miles around 75 mph. CHT slowly crept up to 250F but it took all 25 miles to get there. Considering the temps outside I wasn't concerned. After that city/rural streets the rest of the way home. Hit 300 in Zephyrhills in some church traffic, but no pings. Just a warm feeling between my legs.
On the way home I filled the tank and wondered if I could get away with 87 octane. At 9.5:1, with the 91 octane being A DOLLAR more per gallon, it got me thinking. Maybe I'll try a tank of 89 first and see how she reacts. Then when I left the gas station I gave her some HEAVY throttle getting up to speed. Had a little fart and hesitation towards the top, but I didn't see the AFR so I'm betting too rich (from the backfire).
I'm also LOVING how this bike shifts! The Energy One extra disk clutch pack, 15% heavier spring, new cable, ATF in the primary, and 75W-90 gear oil in the trans and she shifts like buttah! Outstanding clutch feel and friction zone as well. Nice and tight. And from my 31T-65T pulley combo I'm spinning 3000 rpm at 75. I like having magnetic speedo sensing on the front wheel. I can do whatever I want with pulleys and belts and never calibrate anything!
“ I like having magnetic speedo sensing on the front wheel. I can do whatever I want with pull”
so, that’s the ticket?
Would that work on any year bike. Meaning bikes with their own brain?
Not really "the ticket" but very applicable to my build. I hate cable operated speedometers, mainly because they're big and clunky, and you've got ANOTHER cable running around the bike. Wires are much easier to hide, and now that my speedo is calibrated to the front wheel I never have to recalibrate unless I change the wheel or tire size. It's also got its own brain. I could take this whole kit off and put it on some other bike, recalibrate, and it would work perfectly. The only complicated part was fabricating the sensor mount. I'll get some close up pics in the coming weeks for ya.
It's a Koso speedometer, Model XR-SR, and they make some pretty good stuff. Some of it even fits directly in the OEM speedo slot on Harleys. Zero electric motorcycles uses them exclusively, that's how I discovered them.
Had another good little ride this weekend. About 60 miles, mostly interstate. Temps felt about 80, bike never went over 245 on the highway. The little stop-n-go I did got her up in the 290's but she cooled right back down after I got moving.
Also bought a new cam. V-Thunder EVL-5005. I did a LOT of research on this and I made this change for a couple reasons. The S&S 585 the motor was built around originally has a much too late intake close for the new CR the motor is currently at. I could weld up the combustion chamber, then grind it to shape to get over 10:1, but all that work just to make a cam perform better sounds inefficient. The 5005 intake closes at 38 degrees ABDC (current 520 is 40, 585 is 45), and it's got a .562" lift. Forum consensus is that it's a stump-puller and great on the highway. Moving to this cam will keep me happy with the new CR, and give me power where I want it.
Anyone want an S&S 585 cam? I'll post pics of it tonight.

Sounds hot to me.
My 80" with a Jagg 6 row never got over 175° oil temp even on triple digit days and my 111 with the 6 row in 80° temps only gets to 200°.
